The Diplomat

The diplomat is a tribute to those who work in what I call “the gray”. The gray is why this background is deep and heavy, and empty, of implied ambiguity. Where are the lights of the messenger? The lights are in the prayers of the medicine offered to the bison spirits by the Diplomat.

The gray is the area where two worlds intersect. As a 60’s scoop survivor, turned thriver, I learned to survive in two worlds, pretending I could fit into both.

This is a tribute to those who face the fears. Like the bison, the only four legged to head towards a storm, the diplomats stand firm, they head towards the storm.

Inspired by the Chipewyan diplomat “ Mahtonabee”, this piece would occur in a dream I had .  A time piece some 100 years later than Mahtonabee and his relations with governor Samuel Hearne.  This warrior is Cree, His friend is Metis.

This piece pays tribute to those cross-cultural relationships. A tribute to finding sustainability between all living things.
