Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump

It was a mild winter day nearing the middle of January. The snow gently fell and kissed the just frozen ground. The sun sparkled through thin and powdered flakes that reflected the warm pastel Payne’s gray and muted muddy Magenta’s.  The chickadees in my stomach tickled the inner Bison, now standing , after a long rest, and after breaking through the storm. This white spirit buffalo has journeyed through both worlds, dark and light , black and white, past and present.

Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump, located In Alberta Canada is the Sacred ground where I was called too. It was here I asked for my partners spirit in healing  and chose to join with my partner on a sacred journey of companion-ship and self-discovery, with love and respect at its core. I remember the deer leaping and bouncing, almost as if to float perfectly through a dream. Playfully the intrinsic beings seemed to be responding to our vibration. They too, were present and vibrating , even in the season of rest. Somehow, the day ended up a perfect mix of sensorie’s that engaged and reminded us of our sacred history, our present reclamation and renewal, and a beautiful pledge and sacrifice into the next chapter’s and worlds beyond. This is an honor and duty much like the sacrifice and path of the great bison, who would always head towards the storm, sometimes offer itself for sustenance jump to the heavens, explode into the stars as small feathered bundles of love and hope. During the Buffalo ceremony at Sun-dance I would have my back pierce and dragged four buffalo skulls around the lodge, while I prayed for my parents in the spirit world.
